A 'douar' is a traditional dwelling of Berber villagers. This particular property, built in stone, has been lovingly restored using local craftsmen and materials. Located at an altitude of 1850m they offer a true insight into Berber life. As Jules the donkey ensures your safe arrival, Jacqueline welcomes you with open arms. Omar tends the garden, growing delicious vegetables which are cooked by Rashida and presented to you by Mohammed. Dinners are communal, and while you tuck into good hearty food, one member of staff will be lighting the fire in your room and tucking a hot water bottle into your bed.
The Kasbah / Douar Samra is an ideal place to stay before and/or after one of our hikes and treks in the High Atlas, beforehand it offers some acclimatisation to the altitude and a relaxed start to the day; afterwards it offers a hot shower and a comfy bed without the transfer back to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.
