About Douar Samra
A 'douar' is a traditional dwelling of Berber villagers. This particular property, built in stone, has been lovingly restored using local craftsmen and materials. Located at an altitude of 1850m they offer a true insight into Berber life. As Jules the donkey ensures your safe arrival, Jacqueline welcomes you with open arms. Omar tends the garden, growing delicious vegetables which are cooked by Rashida and presented to you by Mohammed. Dinners are communal, and while you tuck into good hearty food, one member of staff will be lighting the fireplace in your room and tucking a hot water bottle into your bed.
The Kasbah / Douar Samra is an ideal place to stay before and/or after one of our hikes and treks in the High Atlas, beforehand it offers some acclimatisation to the altitude and a relaxed start to the day; afterwards it offers a hot shower and a comfy bed without the transfer back to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.
This hotel is available as part of any tailor made holiday with Rediscover the World.

Transfer Time from Airport:
"Douar Samra - It was very cold whilst we were there and our room was hard to heat. It was primitive but we all agreed in the end it was worth it for the experience. Rashida's cooking was good and very welcome after the walks. Mohamed kept the fires going and provided hot water bottles each night - we really needed them."

"our holiday in Morocco was brilliant - the 2 hotels you set us up with were both fantastic, particularly the second which was pretty special and the perfect thing after 4 days trekking. The trek was also brilliant and we were stunned by the scenery - our guide Mahumad (please excuse my spelling) deserves particular credit for striking the right balance overall and making the whole thing work very smoothly - if possible, please pass on our sentiments to him, or whoever employs him directly - he is a talented chap and deserves the credit. our muleteer was also excellent and the food was generous and spot on every time. - we'd recommend this package to anyone."

"Overall we thoroughly enjoyed it. The scenery in both the desert & the mountains is spectacular as you know. I think all the accommodation was either good or great particularly given the environment in which it was situated (maybe the first Guest House we stayed in could be improved a bit). I probably won’t rush to ride a camel again – fun but tricky to walk immediately afterwards. Our mountain guide (Mohammed) was brilliant as were the Muleteers (Mustapha & Hammed). Couldn’t praise them highly enough. Our desert guide (Rashid) was great for the first 2 days but then something seemed to switch on the last day and he was quite distant and unconcerned - an example would be that he asked that we get up and have breakfast on the final desert day at 06:00 (which we duly did) whereas he and his colleague actually served breakfast at 06:50 (their alarm didn’t go off until 06:20 as I heard it!). No big deal really but when we mentioned that we had been ready at 06:00 he simply laughed. Also in 50C heat it helps to have AirCon that works and is switched on – he didn’t like it but I think he needs to deal with this. All the other Complete Tours staff were great."
