The history of the Slavija can be traced back to the late 16th C, when it was built as a complex of Renaissance ~ Baroque palaces. Last century one of the palaces was converted into the Hotel Slavija, the first hotel in the city and was home to many famous writers, politicans and actors.
Hotel Slavija is located in the private, southern part of Diocletian’s Palace and is therefore protected by Republic of Croatia as a national cultural heritage building, it also has UNESCO protection as an international monument of culture.
The port of Split and the main train and bus stations are 350 metres away. The Slavija Hotel is right next to Jupiter's Temple, and a stone's throw from the Cathedral of St Domnius.
A total of 25 rooms - single, double, triple and family rooms. Some doubles and triples have a terrace. All rooms are bright, comfortable and equipped with air-conditioning, wifi, telephone, cable TV, private bathroom with a shower or bath and a hairdryer.
The hotel restaurant, Para di Soto, is on the ground floor of the hotel and is built over Diocletian's private baths which date from the 4th century (some archaeological remains are still visible inside the premises!). The emphasis is on Mediterranean cuisine with a particular slant on Croatian dishes. Only homegrown, fresh ingredients are used, most of which are handpicked from the garden, a mere 10 minute walk away.
