Mount Olympus is the famous home of the 12 Olympian gods from Greek Mythology. It forms a natural border between the regions of Thessaly and Macedonia and is only 100 kilometres from Greece's second largest city, Thessaloniki. Its highest peak, Mytikas, rises to 2,917 metres (9,570 ft.) - this is also one of the highest peaks in Europe. Mount Olympus is home to a huge variety of flora and fauna with several endemic plants. It is also an important nesting area for birds of prey.

In 1938 Mount Olympus was established as Greece's first National Park and in 1981, UNESCO included Olympus National Park in an international network of regions named Biosphere Reserves. The European Community has included Olympus in the list of "The Most Important Bird areas of the European Community". In 2011 the Ecologist ranked Mount Olympus among the top ten National Parks in Europe.

This walking holiday is available as part of a Small Group or Private Journey. The itinerary includes the peaks of Mount Olympus, the Enipeas Gorge, the Muses Plateau and is combined with a hike in the World Heritage Site of Meteora. The route is a well-planned circular trek utilising two separate mountain huts so you get to see much more than the usual treks on offer. Our guides are officially qualified Mountain Guides and have many years of experience. This tour, combined with a hike at the World Heritage Site of Meteora, is a hiking lover's dream and has something for everyone.

Our treks in Greece include all meals, accommodation and comfortable transport; we offer opportunities for sightseeing as well as an excellent English-speaking guide/tour escort throughout. Your guide will make every effort to show you a variety of good quality Greek dishes during your holiday - our team love their food, too!

This is the traditional (and the best) way to explore this beautiful area; you'll be walking the same trails as the monks did in centuries past. Even if you can't see the river, you can always hear it gurgling through the verdant valley smothered in black pines, beech trees and mediterranean shrub. Along this picturesque trail, which is part of the E4 European long distance path, you'll see waterfalls, wooden bridges and small lakes as well as having stunning views of the Aegean Sea as you get closer to Litochoro.

The final part of the today's hike takes you through alpine scenery which offers far-reaching views of the plains of Northern Greece, the Aegean Sea and the impressive peak “Stefani” (also known as the “Throne of Zeus”).

Continue your hike to Skolio peak (2912m), the second highest peak of Olympus, where you have your lunch break and enjoy the magnificent view towards the peak of Mytikas 2918 m. "It was very relaxing indeed in that everything was taken care of by Thanasis and the Company. There were no extras because everything was covered in the price and organised by Thanasis - taxis, lunches etc. We had nothing to decide or worry about as he even chose the best Greek food for us to try and it was always excellent!! Thanasis was also very interesting to talk to and informative about Greek politics and history. He also found us an excellent young guide to take us up Mt Olympus - Alexandros Panagos was great company and spoke excellent English. A brilliant trip, thank you."

M Spencer, UK, July, 2019

"We just wanted to thank you both very much indeed for organising a truly fantastic walking holiday in Greece for us. Our self-guided walking holiday in Zagori National Park & Mt. Olympus was absolutely superb in every respect. The organisation, accommodation, food, walking & our local guide Alex were all excellent. I seem to remember asking when we first made contact if you could organise some walking for us in remote areas of Greece, away from the normal tourist haunts & having the “wow” factor. Well you certainly achieved those aims for us. The small hotels/guest houses you organised for us were all excellent & the food & welcome we received was second to none. I would thoroughly recommend the holiday as a brilliant means of seeing spectacular parts of Greece & staying in marvellous small hotels . The food was exceptional everywhere. The local people very friendly & welcoming.  Thanks again for all your efforts to ensure that we both had a wonderful walking holiday & witnessed magnificent parts of Greece that we didn’t know existed."

R Tookey, UK, Sept 2016

"I just wanted to let you know that although there were only 2 of us on the tour - I had an excellent trip and cannot recommend Alex and this tour enough. I really thought he went above and beyond what was required of him to make sure we had a good holiday."
