About Karpenissi

Fresh air, fantastic unspoilt scenery & great food! Karpenissi lies at the head of a valley amidst dense forests, gorges and towering mountains and is often referred to as the ‘Greek Switzerland’. The area is ideal for exploring and trekking – meadows & waterfalls abound while traditional villages and monasteries are there to explore.

This lively town is open all year round as it has a popular ski season in winter, the food here is wholesome and hearty and much is made of local cuisine so you will be spoilt for choice at the tavernas.

Koryshades is a picturesque village with stone house and ornate wooden balconies and is a few kilometres away – a little further, but worth the trip, are the villages of Megalo Chorio and Mikro Chorio lying below Mount Helidona (1973m) & Mount Kaliakouda (2101m).  As these villages were off the beaten track this was a huge resistance area in World War Two – Koryshades has a Resistance Museum in the old school building.

Many come here for mountain hiking and both mountains have waymarked paths.
