About Croatia Self Drive 02 - Dubrovnik Circuit

A holiday in southern Croatia touring the Dalmatian Coast, Adriatic Islands & Plitvice National Park. Designed as a circuit so you can choose your direction of travel - easily add extra nights.

Activity code: CRFD02

Duration: 10 Days

START / FINISH - Dubrovnik

This fly drive is our recommendation for a holiday itinerary in southern Croatia offering a circuit which starts and finishes in Dubrovnik. In just over a week you can explore the Croatian coast thoroughly by land and sea and get as far inland as the fabulous Plitvice National Park. It is a very comprehensive schedule which includes Dubrovnik, the Adriatic islands, the Dalmatian coast and the stunning Plitvice lakes.

The holiday exploration begins straight away with a hire car from the airport and a very short drive up the coast to Ston where you can sample oysters and walk the walls or consider travelling inland to Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Mostar may be a day trip destination for many holidaying in Croatia but its stunning bridge, which was lovingly reconstructed after the war in the 1990s, and the old town's atmosphere is well worth an overnight stay as an extra night or an alternative to Ston.

Each day's drive is not so far so you have plenty of time to do some sightseeing, walking or take an extended lunch / picnic along the way. After your initial introduction to Croatia it is time to take to the sea for a short crossing to Hvar Island and a stunning drive along the spine of the island to the lovely Hvar Town in the west. A relaxing morning with a visit to the castle leads to an afternoon ferry back to the mainland at Split. You can choose to stay in either Split or Trogir because in the main season it is easy to travel between on the local ferry across the bay. Time to relax or perhaps take up the offer to do some rafting or the mulit-zip-wire experience in the Cetina Valley.

After Split there is a beautiful drive inland to the World-famous Plitvice Lakes National Park and a couple of nights accommodation so you can have at least one full day to explore the park. Return to the coast by driving to the lovely old town of Zadar which also has some innovative new sights up its sleeve. After Zadar you may choose to take the highway some or most of the way back to Dubrovnik.

If you have a few extra days or wish to cut down the locations along the way you may wish to consider a few days in Montenegro which can be tailored to your preference between the beach resort of Budva with its tranquil old town and Kotor with its impressive walls, historic buildings and challenging walk up the "staircase" to the fortress high above.

We feel that the best finale to this holiday is a few nights in Dubrovnik where you can relax, enjoy some activities and sightseeing without your car as the local buses and cable car offer an excellent service.

"What an amazing holiday we had. By far the highlight being Plitvice Lakes. Everything ran like clockwork, the transfers, car hire, locations of hotels were spot on. We did drop the car off a couple of days early as driving around Split didnt appeal, but the drive from Split to Plitvice was great..."

" Andy, immediate feedback on our visit to Croatia: 150% MORE THAN SATISFIED OUR EXPECTATIONS! Seriously from the time of arrival in Dubrovnik to the time we left Dubrovnik Debbie and I could not have been more pleased with all the planning, we, you and your more than capable associates undertook. The hotels, breakfasts, the towns, villages and cities along with our stay in Plivice National Park gave us an “”above expectation” Croatian experience. All of our accommodations were 4 star or above with wonderful welcomes by hotel staff who also offered their expertise and suggestions. The car rental worked out well, except with the negative of the car was empty of windshield fluid which we filled. We were extremely fortunate with the weather since we saw no rainfall the entire trip. Staying two nights at each location proved a good decision since it made for a relaxing and enhanced way of living a little of Croatian culture. We certainly would and will recommend your organization to friends since there is presently great excitement of visiting the Dalmatian coast. I have to edit nearly a 1,000 photos taken during our stay and will be putting on travel shows down the road. "

"Thanks Andy for putting together a fabulous itinerary for our Croatia vacation! By arranging the hotels and rental car, you reduced our planning workload and allowed us to focus on the main agenda - having fun in the beautiful country of Croatia! Cheers."

D Anand, India, October 2017

"Great itinerary and choice of hotels. Favourite places were Hvar and Korcula. Least favourite were Plitvika (felt like a school trip being herded around the defined routes - and very busy) and Dubrovnik (first impression was Disneyland Paris without the annoying tune!. Very busy also. Improved after a couple of guided tours and evening time was quieter. And this was almost out of season). All arrangements were excellent and worked perfectly. We will go back again for sure. Thanks for an excellent holiday."
