Itinerary

According to the Dubrovnik Archives, the Crvik Family has been living in Konavle since 1500. The family has been growing grapevines for several centuries, but it has been producing wine for more than 100 years - more specifically since 1897, when the first generation of Andro's family winemakers and grandfather Andro built his own wine cellar. The winery is located in Konavle, a green oasis not far from Dubrovnik, in the picturesque village of Komaji located in a forest on the hills between Konavle Field on one side and the sea on the other. Within the village are small karst fields 100-500 meters wide, extending from Cavtat to Vitaljina, known as Konavle's "redness".

Konavle has for centuries been renowned for the production of silk yarn, where it was used for the decoration of male and notably female national costumes, one of the most important aspects of tradition, beauty and cultural heritage of this region. Silk production in Konavle has successfully resisted the challenges of the global industrialism in the 18th and 19th centuries, and has revived, nowadays, as a family tradition in several households in this area. We invite you to visit and take part in this ancient craft of producing the silk threads in the most traditional manner - from a cocoon to silk.

In the small place Ponikve on the Pelješac peninsula, where sun, stone and the sea create the perfect home for Plavac mali, the small family winery Marlais is located. Symbolically connected with the French roots of the family name, close by runs Napoleon’s road built at the beginning of the 19th century. Deep underground, taking up a surface of 110 square meters, the family’s wine cellar is located, holding the secrets of making top-quality wines of divine taste and exquisite aromas. Located in the upper part is the newly-opened, state-of-the-art tasting room where you can try their wines, homemade liqueurs and olive oil accompanied by an offer of traditional food. The Marlais family, which has distant French roots, settled on Pelješac at the beginning of the 17th century. The family’s ancestry certainly predisposes it towards the making of top-quality wine, or, colloquially said, “it is in their blood.”
